I should have written this a long time ago, but the truth is, putting my feelings about this organization into words has never been easy. It’s also scary to put myself out there because, while the kindness I've experienced has far outweighed the negativity, the hurtful moments have left me fiercely protective of my family and this organization.
From the moment Samantha was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy, those two words felt like a permanent suffix to her name. I quickly realized that, for many, her life would always be defined by that diagnosis. But I refused to let that happen. Instead of hearing, "Oh, poor Samantha, she has Cerebral Palsy," I wanted people to say, "Samantha has made a huge impact on the special needs community."
That desire became a promise—one that Manny, her brothers, and I are committed to fulfilling every single day. Samantha’s Purpose is our way of ensuring that her diagnosis does not define her but rather fuels a legacy. Her father, brothers, and I serve as her arms, her legs, and her voice. Through this organization, we give Samantha the platform she deserves, one that allows her to touch lives, bring change, and inspire hope.
This journey has been filled with incredible highs and some very dark lows. There have been moments of deep sadness, of silence filled with "what ifs," but Samantha’s Purpose has been my way of pushing forward, of transforming pain into purpose. Manny and I have been blessed to witness so many children thrive in the ways we once dreamed for Samantha. Though her path turned out differently than we once dreamed, we have found solace in knowing that, because of her, we are helping others achieve what once seemed impossible. This journey has also shaped her brothers into the compassionate, resilient, and thoughtful men they are today. Growing up alongside Samantha has taught them the value of empathy, the importance of standing up for others, and the true meaning of unconditional love.
As we approach our first in-person Run Walk & Stroll 2K since 2020, I am overwhelmed with gratitude. This event is not just about coming together for a cause—it’s a celebration of resilience, of love, and of the undeniable impact Samantha continues to have on this world. Every step we take on that day is a testament to the promise we made to her, a reminder that her legacy is alive and growing.
To everyone who has supported us, walked beside us, and believed in this mission since it’s inception to this very moment—thank you. You are part of Samantha’s story, and because of you, her Purpose shines brighter than ever.
